QS-9000
Certification
QS-9000,
which is worldly accepted and applied, is a certification
standard for motor industry, which was developed by USA
the three giant motor makers (GM, Ford, Chrysler and their
wagon producers).
With support
from ISO/TC 176, the International Automotive Task Force
(IATF) and Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association
(JAMA) prepared ISO/TS 16949:2002, i.e. Quality management
systems -- Particular requirements for the application
of ISO 9001:2000 for automotive production and relevant
service part organizations. The 2002 revision has adopted
the content and structure of ISO 9001:2000 which promotes
a "process approach" to developing, implementing
and improving a quality management system. ISO/TS 16949
certification has become one of the fundamental requirements
of automotive OEMs for suppliers’ quality system. Some
of the benefits of the IATF registration scheme include:
· improved
product and process quality
· additional confidence for global sourcing
· reassignment of supplier resources to quality improvement
· common quality system approach in the supply chain for
supplier/subcontractor development and consistency
· reduction in multiple 3rd party registrations.
